Serena sat on the edge of the stage, watching some of the workers move the scenery. They were doing a new show tomorrow night, and it was much harder than their previous ones. She wasn't worried though, but rather excited. None of the dancers ever got extremely nervous before a big show. Le Ballet D'Or only accepted the very best, so they all loved performing and it came naturally to them. The crowd wasn't something to be feared. They were the ones who pushed you up, rather than pulling you down. Serena had been dancing here for a long time. This stage was home to her, and she often came here to think, or just to sit somewhere quiet. The magnificent arches, the red curtains, velvet seats and gold tapestries made her feel as if she was living in a very glamorour era. It was very different to the city outside, London. She had grown up there, and while it was familiar and comforting to her, there was something magical about the theatre.
Serena didn't only dance here though. A while ago, she had been asked to dance at Siren's Song. She knew that a bunch of girls worked there, and there was a group from the Ballet who also did part-time there. Most of them did it for money. Serena didn't need the money though, her family was very wealthy. She did it because she loved the thrill of it, the fancy costumes, the grungy feel of the club, and the cute bartenders. There were girls, and guys, at the Ballet who sneered at Siren's, they felt they were above it. But she didn't see it that way, it wasn't about status, it was just about having fun. And if there was one thing Serena was especially good at, it was having a good time. She had always been one for taking risks and being spontaneous, and was always ready to try something new. She hated routine, and boredom, so despite being given pretty much anything she wanted, she still went out of her way to find ways of amusing herself. Her parents didn't care what she did, nor were they aware most of the time, but then, that was how most families like hers were. It seemed that the richer they were, the less they cared about what their children did. That suited Serena just fine. She did, however, try to keep an eye on her younger brother sometimes, which was easier to do now that he was also at the Ballet. She felt that since there were no parents around, the least she could do was look after him a bit. Although, he was a pretty good kid. So it sometimes felt like he should have been looking after her instead. But Serena and her brother were pretty close. Looking up at the ceiling, Serena let her mind drift to tomorrow's show. It would surely be spectacular.
